International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs

International Baccalaureate (IB) Programs:

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Career-related Programme (CP) is tailored for students between the ages 16–19 years seeking career-related learning opportunities, while acquiring transferable skills in applied knowledge, critical thinking, communication, and cross-cultural engagement. Eligible applicants include candidates having completed Secondary School Certificate (SSC) (Matriculation), GCSE/O levels, IB Middle Years Programme, or equivalent qualifications. The IB Career-related Programme (CP) is recognized as equivalent to the Higher Secondary School Certificate (relevant group) in Pakistan.

The Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) considers the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) and IB Diploma Programme (DP) from Geneva, Switzerland, equivalent to SSC and HSSC (relevant groups) in Pakistan, respectively.

The IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) caters to students between the ages 3-12 years. It offers a trans-disciplinary, inquiry-based, and student-centered education with responsible action as its core, allowing students to explore across traditional subject boundaries.

Middle Years Programme (MYP):

The IB Middle Years Programme (MYP) is designed for students between the ages 11-16 years. Its curriculum framework consists of eight subject groups, providing a comprehensive education for early adolescents.

Diploma Programme (DP):

The IB Diploma Programme (DP) is an evaluated curriculum for students between the ages 16-19 years, widely recognized by leading universities worldwide. The DP curriculum comprises six subject groups and the DP core, which includes Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay.

Equivalence of IB Programme:

Middle Years Programme (MYP):

The International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (MYP) with a minimum of five academic subjects, including English and Mathematics from an external examining body in Geneva, Switzerland, is considered equivalent to the SSC (relevant group) in Pakistan.

  • For indigenous examinations: Eight subjects are required, including English, Urdu, Islamiyat, Pakistan Studies, Mathematics, and three elective subjects.
  • For non-indigenous examinations: Five subjects are required, including English, Mathematics, and three elective subjects.
  • To qualify for the Science group, it is necessary to pass Physics, Chemistry, and Biology/Computer Science.
  • For conversion into SSC equivalent marks, grades of all eight/five subjects are calculated for conversion into Pakistani marks.
Diploma Programme (DP):

The International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (DP) with a minimum of five required subjects from an external examining body in Geneva, Switzerland, is deemed equivalent to HSSC (relevant group) in Pakistan.

Pre-Medical Group: Five subjects are required including English, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and one overall best academic subject, with a minimum grade of 3.

Pre-Engineering Group: Five subjects are required including English, Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and one overall best subject in grades, with a minimum grade of 3.

The Certificate of the Career-related Programme is awarded subject to the satisfactory completion of the following requirements by a candidate:

  • The completion of the career-related study is the basic requirement for the issuance of an equivalence certificate, in addition to the completion of other requirements.
  • The Inter Boards Coordination Commission (IBCC) equates the grading of DP courses passed in the Career-related Programme according to the approved conversion formula available on the IBCC website (same as the IB Diploma).
  • The candidate must pass minimum two subjects for Humanities Group and three for Pre-Medical/Pre-Engineering Group of Higher Level Diploma Programme Courses with a grade of 3 or higher.
  • The IBCC equates the grading of the Reflective Project to at least a D. The other core subjects, namely Personal and Professional Skills, Service Training, and Language Development, are internally assessed by the school, so completion is the basic requirement for the issuance of an equivalence certificate.

Note:

  • IBCC considers the IB Diploma, comprising six subject groups and the Diploma Programme (DP) core (Theory of Knowledge (TOK), Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS), and the Extended Essay), as equivalent to grade 12/HSSC (relevant group). IBCC does not consider the IB certificate equivalent to HSSC.
  • All Pakistani nationals appearing for examinations from Pakistan must pass Urdu, Islamiyat, and Pakistan Studies along with other required subjects to qualify for equivalence.
  • The Equivalence Committee resolved to approve the Career-related Program offered by the International Baccalaureate (IBO) in Science subjects for the issuance of Equivalence Certificate of HSSC (Pre-Medical/Pre-Engineering Group) of Pakistan.
