- Appearance in examinations from Pakistan: Eight subjects are required including compulsory subjects of English, Mathematics, Urdu, Islamiyat, and Pakistan Studies, and three elective academic subjects with a minimum passing grade of E.
- Appearance in examinations overseas/abroad: Five subjects are required including English, Mathematics, and three elective academic subjects with a minimum passing grade of E.
- Equivalent Groups at SSC Level: As per the scheme of studies of Pakistan, to qualify for the Science Group it is mandatory to pass the subjects of Physics, Chemistry, and Biology / Computer Science / Information Technology (IT) / Information & Communications Technology (ICT) in addition to the compulsory subjects. For students; pursuing further education in Medicine, the subject of Biology is mandatory. Students who do not meet these requirements will be placed in the Arts Group as the requirements to qualify for the arts group include Five compulsory and any three elective subjects.
GCE ‘A’ levels are considered equivalent to the Higher Secondary School Certificate (HSSC), subject to the completion of SSC-level qualifications and meeting the specified requirements for a particular study group:
